Who are these old Java men?

I had a look at the Ellison/McNealy Java future announcement the last minutes. I got a bit frightened. Who are these old men?

If you look at the video you will recognize two things:

  • Two old men
  • telling us about a brilliant future of Java

Seems to me both exude what Rod was talking about: missing innovation. Although, only 7 years ago I remember a fresh, vital Scotty, a leader, an innovator.

More interesting that there’s no real difference between them both. Larry isn’t much more vital. Scotty has lost a company, but Larry should be happy about this deal, shouldn’t he? But, maybe both were only tired.

I forgot: They keep even JavaFX. So, this is what Rod predicted. Nothing really changes in the Java world. Larry suggests to re-implement Open Office in JavaFX and maybe Sun will deliver mobile gear with Google’s Android in the future. So, money exists to keep everything unchanged. Maybe Oracle only bought the community finally ;-) (like AOL did it with Netscape in the past).

Java is the best backend for enterprise mobile applications, its more secure and has more optional add ons than PHP.

So java DOES have a bright future, I think some people are so stuck in the past they don't think out of the box.

When you see my imageShare app , you'll see what I mean. icefaces integration at several levels with a native application.

Which brings up another point… There are a lot of women in this java community too :-)
