I had a look at the Ellison/McNealy Java future announcement the last minutes. I got a bit frightened. Who are these old men?
If you look at the video you will recognize two things:
- Two old men
- telling us about a brilliant future of Java
Seems to me both exude what Rod was talking about: missing innovation. Although, only 7 years ago I remember a fresh, vital Scotty, a leader, an innovator.
More interesting that there’s no real difference between them both. Larry isn’t much more vital. Scotty has lost a company, but Larry should be happy about this deal, shouldn’t he? But, maybe both were only tired.
I forgot: They keep even JavaFX. So, this is what Rod predicted. Nothing really changes in the Java world. Larry suggests to re-implement Open Office in JavaFX and maybe Sun will deliver mobile gear with Google’s Android in the future. So, money exists to keep everything unchanged. Maybe Oracle only bought the community finally
(like AOL did it with Netscape in the past).
