Adobe CS 2 on Windows 8

Some days ago I got a hint on the free license of Adobe CS2. For short, it is not a free release of an about 7 years old version of one of the most popular and also most expensive creative tools sets on the planet. But it got be free by a technical accident when Adobe tried to stop supporting CS2. The social networks were too fast ...

Headway 3.0 – A Good Concept, but the 3rd Time I’ve to Adapt my Blog

I started to use the Headway theme in January 2010. Meanwhile I have to adapt the blog design the third time. Although the concept behind is brilliant I miss backward compatibility that allows me to take updates/upgrades without loosing my old work.

At the moment I’m not able to get back what I designed before. Parallel to this the Headway child themes are still not available. These could be an alternative to my old work. So, be patient for a ...

You Never Heard of Twitter, Blogghead?

Twitter got momentum a year ago. But, this seems to be still ignored by some bloggers. So, my suggestion: keep up with the times and time won’t pass you by.

For all of us who work with Twitter for some time it is nothing special to collect important information in it. This is true for what we publish ourselves. But, this is also true for whom we follow. I follow guys who have some interesting to tell to what I’m interested ...

Graffitis in 3D – Brilliant Idea!

I’m a Hip Hopper since 1983 and I’m collecting Graffitis since 1998. But, besides some DJing and Mixing I never really produced stuff myself. Today I found an interview that presents a brilliant idea: create Wildstyle Graffitis with your 3D software.

During my search for photoblog stuff with a special focus on Graffiti art, I found an interview with Brad Schwede, a real sprayer. He has developed a technique that allows to take the well-known 3D style of street ...

Google Wave – Can We Do This With ICEfaces?

Wow. I only had a look at a third of the video everybody has a look at these days and I was already flashed. Although, mainly based on AJAX they indeed push the Web browser to the next limit.

icecubeWell, not really. Because, they talked about Google Gears and HTML5 to get all this. It is clear we won’t get this with the browsers we have today. So, we have to wait. ...

Balsamiq Mockup on AIR

I like these little tools that help to save time. If you have to create user interface designs, a new category of tools is on the horizon: mockup tools. These allow to work like with pencil and paper, but add all advantages of modern software design to it.

First sketches can always be done with a pencil and paper. But, if you discuss such designs with your team you soon have to redraw them completely again. Finally, this can ...

Web Killer Apps: SUMO Paint – Painting Reloaded

When I had my first look at the online release of Photoshop some months ago, well Photoshop Elements I should say, I thought, this part of the “new online Office suite world”, based on Flex, is done by the inventors themselves. But, today I found SUMO Paint and I’ve to rething this.

So, I had another look at Photoshop Express for a comparison. SUMO Paint seems a real paint program, whereas Photoshop Express is more like a ...

Icy Faces for More Than a Year

I did a search on my blog today to find out when I wrote about ICEfaces the first time. It was a comment on May 10, 2007 in my post When There’s Bad Smell in Your JSF Tag Soup Due to Facelets. I suggested it for its excellent Facelets integration. Indeed, this was why we choose it primarily in our project to skip Struts/Tiles/Common-Controls.

I started in August, 2007 to create a core for our Web presentation based ...

Web Killer Apps: Buzzword – Word Processing Reloaded

Last January I wrote about Flex implementations on their way to replace current office applications. Today I had a deeper look at what Adobe has done at the wordprocessor front: Buzzword.

One of the most important design principles is reduction (apply Occam’s razor). If you’ve a look at the current office implementations you get 80% functionality even a power user will never use. Adobe has done a good job here. They chose the essential functions of todays wordprocessing.

Ergonomics ...

Google Chrome Will Rock the Web

The last days I had a look at Google’s latest public announcement: The Chrome Browser. Yes, Google has its own now. You may ask, why this? That was also my first question.

Here’s the answer:

I like what they are doing over at Google, and I’m always impressed by their results. A new browser architecture for native support of Web 2.0 applications. Fantastic idea. Why?

The old implementations, based on ...
